Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr

She was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Influenced by the unique culture and strong creative environment of the city, she knew at a young age that she wanted to be an artist. Graduating from University of New Orleans with a major in painting, Elizabeth opened The Youth Corner Studio in the Garden District to teach art to children and pursue free-lance commercial art. To keep her hand in her fine arts, she would enter local exhibits.

That was over 30 years ago. She recently decided to reignite her passion for painting again. Today she is considered a modern, expressionistic landscape artist. Her paintings are unified by her rich color palette. Her landscapes are real but not quite recognizable as a particular place and sometime edge on the surreal or fantasy. Working in mostly acrylic and occasionally pastel, she is inspired by the nature around her and the family travels.

Her recent works, combining her love of color and the mystery of nature, have been exhibited in solo shows and national juried exhibits. Elizabeth’s paintings are also in private collections in Texas, New York, North Carolina, California, Louisiana and Florida.
