EDGE: Recent works by Neil Bender

Neil Bender makes paintings and collages that probe fluid practices of gender and sexuality. He recasts imagery exploited by popular culture with seductive surfaces and color in order to form a new interface for open dialogue or experience. With humor as a starting point, Bender’s work aims to alleviate the anxiety of desire and fulfill fetishes and fantasies.

Playa Society hosts a pop-up merch shop and art gallery at Kress Contemporary while the NCAA Women’s Final Four is in Tampa, April 3-5. The Boston-based streetwear brand, founded by designer and retired baller Esther Wallace in 2018, specializes in design and storytelling for women’s sports like the WNBA and NCAA.

OXH GALLERY is pleased to present Weave a Tale featuring the “Crossing” and “Interaction” series by Misako Nakahira. The Japanese textile artists’s work reflects her desire to express not only the layering of lines and colors but also the relationships between people and objects. Like towels swaying in the wind, these relationships are fluid, dynamic, and ever-changing.

A Titanic Double Feature at Fringe Theatre

This double-feature begins with the 60 minute show Mrs. Bliss's Titanic Adventure by reknowned Bay area performer Bridget Bean, followed by an intermission, and then the hilarious A One Woman Titanic Parody In 59 Minutes Or Less from Orlando by Katie Thayer. Both shows have won awards at the Fringe Festival, so this promises to be a delightful celebration of one of the most famous moments in history.

Collage Clique Tampa Bay meet-up and cut-up

Lance Rothstein’s Collage Clique Tampa Bay returns to Kress Contemporary for another meet-up and cut-up. The group has gathered at various Tampa Bay area locations since January 2023 to nerd out over ephemera, scissors and glue. Join them at this free collage meetup and get a preview of Carissa Heinrichs’ upcoming 2-day workshop, “Introduction to Collagraph Printing.” All supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own or some to share.

Theo Wujcik, Too Big for Tempus & Mise En Abyme

Kress Contemporary is excited to participate in The 2nd Annual Ybor Arts Tour, set to take place on Thursday, October 19, from 5-9 PM. The event is free and open to the public, with participants encouraged to register for a free parking pass via Eventbrite once tickets are released to the public. The tour includes 10+ participating art venues in Ybor City, with each offering different exhibitions and experiences starting at HCC’s Ybor Campus Art Gallery and culminating at Kress Contemporary. The tour is organized by a group of Ybor City art advocates and professionals, including Hillsborough Community College Gallery Director Amanda Poss and Tracy Midulla, founder and director of Tempus Projects. The goal of the tour is to highlight the growing presence of the visual, performing, and literary arts in Ybor City and solidify culture's role in Ybor's identity.
