This 2-day mokulito (Wood Lithography) workshop will introduce participants to the alternative process of printing lithography on wood. Participants will gain experience in board preparation, drawing materials, and printing procedures. Due to the required timing of the process, day one will focus on board preparation with image making and day two will focus on printing. Participants with or without prior printing experience are welcome to join.
Workshop Overview:
Day 1 includes an introduction and overview of the process with a demo on prepping the wood, drawing materials, and preliminary demo on printing a reference block. Participants will have time to draw and paint on their wood block with greasy drawing tools provided. The session will conclude with a demo of closing the block with talc and gum arabic. Each participant will close their block and leave it to set for the next session.
Day 2 includes a demo on how to open the block and a quick demo on blend rolls. Participants will print their blocks on mulberry paper for the remaining session. Participants have the option to try printing on different papers or fabric they may bring.
